Located 25 miles north of San Diego, Encinitas is a comfy-cozy introduction to neighborhood-style SoCal culture. Known for its surfable beaches, botanical bounty and spiritual awareness, downtown Encinitas and its surrounding coastal towns offer mornings of outdoor activities and healthy smoothies, afternoons of shopping and garden strolling, and early evenings of luscious Italian food and low-key, friendly watering holes. Encinitas is home to approximately 58,000 residents. Aside from its six miles of beautiful coastline, Encinitas' parks, campgrounds and the San Elijo Ecological Reserve attract thousands of visitors each year. Every year on the 2nd weekend in April, the "Flower Capitol of the World" celebrates the arrival of spring at the Encinitas Street Fair, during which thousands of browsers, shoppers and others come out for two days of fun, original art, clothing, jewelry and gift ideas of every turn. Other draws include Concerts by the Sea on Moonlight Beach throughout July and August and the Taste of Main Street, where on the 3rd Thursday in August, downtown comes alive for an evening of culinary delight. The City of Encinitas was incorporated in 1921, beginning as a five acre plot of Gladioli, Freesia and Ranculi flowers. For the first half of 2010, sales of single family homes ranged from $421K to $2.9 Million with average sales price of $869,599.
