Del Mar City Site

Del Mar, San Diego County's smallest city in both size and population, is home to about 5,200 residents. Residents of the small beach community take pride in its quaint and reclusive neighborhoods, specialty shops and boutiques and beautiful beaches. Within the Del Mar city limits, a quaint historical village dating back to the 1880's serves as a backdrop to a small seaside resort first made famous in the 1930's by racehorse aficionados from Hollywood. Within the village, historical buildings and cottages vie for the stroller's attention, as do the benches overlooking the magnificent beach, and the fine coffee and wine bars. Unique shops and galleries line the city's streets, while the areas surrounding the village have many fine shopping malls. The first shopping center was opened on Via de la Mar Plaza on Camino del Mar in 1989. Today the Plaza is one of the highlights for visitors on their stroll though the village of Del Mar. The city is known nationally for its premier race track and thoroughbred horse racing. The racing season runs from late July to mid-September. Also popular throughout Southern California is the annual County Fair, which features good food, plenty of rides and is a great way for families to kick off the summer For the first 8 months of 2009, sales of single family homes ranged from $635K to 14 Million with average sales price of $1,941,000
